Vasectomy is a minor outpatient procedure that blocks sperm from entering the semen. It does not stop testosterone production and does not protect against sexually transmitted infections.
A consultation can cover the procedure, recovery, risks, alternatives, and post-procedure semen testing. Backup contraception is needed until follow-up testing confirms that sperm are no longer present.
